種

Kind, Type, Seed

たね (tane)

JLPT N3

Interesting Fact

The expression 種をまく(たねをまく), literally “to sow seeds,” is also commonly used metaphorically. It can describe starting something now that will produce results later—such as 努力の種をまく, “planting the seeds of effort.” This agricultural image is deeply intuitive: you cannot expect a harvest immediately after planting.

Memory Trick

“Every SEED grows into a different KIND (種): the GRAIN (禾) becomes HEAVY (重) with possibilities!”
