Target, -like

まと (mato)

JLPT N3

Interesting Fact

The kanji 的 originally meant 'target' in archery, but today it is far more commonly used as the suffix '-like' or '-al' in words such as 日本的 (Japanese-style) and 具体的 (concrete).

Memory Trick

Imagine an ARCHER aiming at a TARGET. Hitting the TARGET reminds you of 的.
