Prohibit, Forbid

JLPT N2

Interesting Fact

Japanese train stations, parks, and public buildings often display signs such as 禁煙 (No Smoking) and 立入禁止 (No Entry), making 禁 one of the most recognizable public notice kanji.

Memory Trick

Imagine a large red sign blocking your way. It clearly tells everyone 'Do not enter!' That warning helps you remember 禁 means 'to prohibit' or 'to forbid.'
