Interesting Fact

The kanji 者 rarely appears alone in modern Japanese, but it appears in hundreds of occupations and identities. Add it after another word, and it instantly means "a person who does that." For example, 読者 (dokusha) is a reader, 医者 (isha) is a doctor, 科学者 (kagakusha) is a scientist, and 著者 (chosha) is an author. Learning this single kanji unlocks countless new vocabulary words.
