Autumn, Fall

あき (aki)

JLPT N4

Interesting Fact

🍂Spring may belong to cherry blossoms, but autumn belongs to "momiji (紅葉)." Every year, Japanese people travel across the country to admire the fiery red maple leaves, turning autumn leaf hunting into a national pastime.

Memory Trick

The kanji 秋 combines a 禾 (looks like small rice plant) and fire (火). Imagine farmers celebrating a successful harvest with a bonfire beside the rice fields. Rice + Fire = Autumn.
