Interesting Fact
During traditional Japanese festivals and tea ceremonies, charcoal is burned to heat water. After the fire goes out, only 灰 (ash) remains, and in some tea schools the ash is arranged artistically.
Memory Trick
Imagine a fire (火) burning under a cliff (厂). When the flames die out, only gray ash is left. That leftover ash is 灰.
